Food Security and Nutrition

In the target region there is high levels of malnutrition which is worse for children aged below 5 years due to food insecurity. The drivers of acute food insecurity in Hargele is as a result of compounding effects of poor and erratic rainfall distribution, flooding, desert locust infestation and socio-economic impacts of COVID-19. The Shadow of Charity Organization provides food supplement to the general ration for moderately malnourished individuals, pregnant and nursing mothers, and other at-risk individuals. This includes building the capacities of the caregivers of severely malnourished children by providing advice, demonstrations and health and nutrition information enabling them to effectively feed and care for their children during treatment.

In response to draught and food shortage in the area, the organization has started a food ratio program that targets 500 households with almost 3000 people. Under the feeding program the organization provide weekly food donations that include 2kg of rice, 1 Kg sugar, 5 Kg of Maize floor and 1 Litres of Oil.
